About Dubai : Where exactly is Dubai? : Things to do in Dubai : Getting To Dubai
A large number of airlines have flights to Dubai in addition to all those transit flights going through Dubai. UAE based carriers include:
- Emirates Airlines is the Dubai based carrier operating out of Dubai International Airport.
- Etihad Airlines started in 2005, flies out of Abu Dhabi International Airport.
- Air Arabia started in 2004, flies out of Sharjah International Airport - a "no-frills" airline.
- Jazeera Airways is a Kuwaiti airline which started to use Dubai as a hub for direct flights to some destinations from early February 2007.
- Gulf Air is a Bahrain-Oman (80:20 split from 01 May 2007) airline and has flights from Bahrain, Muscat, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
For cheap flights to and from Dubai, try the more obscure carriers (probably less safe and/or comfortable), or look for special offers from your travel agent. Emirates Airlines often do promotional flight and accommodation packages from Europe that are good value for money - especially as it's often difficult and/or expensive to find a hotel room in Dubai.
Note that taxes, fuel surcharges and service fees can often make up a significant proportion of the total cost, and are often not quoted in advertisements for cheap fares from Dubai. Allow an extra several hundred dirhams depending on where you're going.
Finding good cheap hotel accommodation in Dubai in 2007 is difficult and likely to stay that way until at least 2008. If you are looking for a good deal on accommodation, your best option is to try and get a package deal with the airline you use to fly to Dubai.
