The evolution of AMLAK Finance from Emaar’s wholly-owned home finance
subsidary to a mature and diversified publicly listed Islamic financial
institution mirrors the evolution of Dubai itself.
The Emirate has developed from a minor trading port just a generation ago to
being one of the world’s foremost economic powerhouses today, home to the
world’s leading technology, companies, and people. This has been achieved
through the vision of its rulers, the courage to take difficult decisions, and
the hard work and application of its people, and of the people who have made it
their home.
AMLAK’s development makes for a case study of best practice in how to build
a financial institution from scratch. Established in 2000, Amlak, 45 per
cent owned by Emaar Properties PJSC, has grown to become the UAE’s largest
publicly held Islamic finance company offering Shariah compliant solutions to
both retail and corporate customers.
AMLAK’s property finance helps individuals and families to purchase their
own homes and participate actively in one of the world’s most dynamic real
estate markets. As a result, AMLAK is enabling UAE nationals and
expatriates alike to share in the Dubai’s achievements, and to own a small
part of the latest chapter in the Dubai success story.
Since 2004, AMLAK diversified its retail portfolio to include auto and yacht
finance as well as the financing for investment in shares. On the
Corporate side, AMLAK provides working capital, project, trade and asset
financing by participating in syndications. AMLAK has also acted as lead
arranger on facilities outside the UAE.
During 2005, AMLAK successfully launched its first investment product the
AMLAK First Real Estate Fund (close ended) for US$ 75 million. The Company
also completed a Sukuk issue for US$ 200 million through strong support from
local and regional investors.
Further diversification was achieved in 2005, by entering into property sales
and management services.
