About Dubai : Where exactly is Dubai? : Things to do in Dubai : Getting To Dubai
Dubai is a city state, one of the seven emirates that constitute United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the eastern Arabian Peninsula, sometimes called "Dubai city" to distinguish it from the emirate. UAE shares it's borders with Oman and Saudi Arabia. Across the Arabian or Persian Gulf are Qatar, Iran and Iraq. Apart from a wee territorial spat with Iran over the islands Abu Musa, Greater Tumb, and Lesser Tumb, it's a sunny and friendly neighborhood to reside in.
Dubai is positioned at 25.2697° N 55.3095° E and covers an area of 4,114 km² (1,588 mi²).
Dubai is not the capital of the UAE although Dubai is likely to be more well known than Abu Dhabi (the capital) due to its tremendous expansion and marketing phenomena of Dubai that has made it instantly recognizable.
A common reason for asking where Dubai is, is concern over its proximity to volatile areas of the Middle East. Most residents here feel very safe despite being close to Iran, and Iraq. Israel, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and Yemen are all a little further away, and once people have visited the UAE, they tend to be much less worried about where Dubai is.
